Pearl sticks have a crushable capsule sitting in the filter. Leave it alone and you get a plain tobacco session. Click it and the flavour changes for the rest of the stick.

That makes a Pearl the only TEREA where one pack covers two moods, and it is the reason this range has grown faster than anything else in the catalogue.

We stock Pearls from three ranges, and they are not interchangeable. The same name can mean different things depending on which market the pack came from, which is the single most important thing on this page.

How the capsule works

The bead sits inside the filter, near the end you put in your mouth. Press it between finger and thumb until you feel it give, and the aroma inside releases into the draw.

Timing is up to you. Click before you start and the whole session runs flavoured. Click halfway and you get plain tobacco first, then the flavour, which is how most regular users smoke them. Do not click at all and it behaves as an ordinary stick, so nothing is wasted if you change your mind.

You cannot un-click it. Once the capsule is crushed the flavour stays for the rest of the stick.

Everything else works exactly like any other TEREA. The capsule is in the filter, the heating element is sealed inside the tobacco section, and the device never touches either.

The one thing that catches people out

Sun Pearl is not one flavour. It is three, depending on which range your pack comes from.

The Japanese Sun Pearl releases a fresh watermelon aroma with a refreshing menthol behind it. The Kazakh version runs in the same watermelon and tropical direction. The Indonesian Sun Pearl is something else entirely: a sweet green fruit release, closer to crisp apple and pear, sitting over a warmer tobacco base with no strong cooling at all.

If you liked Sun Pearl once and want the same thing again, check which range you bought. Reordering the name alone will not get you there. The same caution applies to Oasis Pearl, which is passion fruit in both the Japanese and Indonesian versions but at different intensities and prices.

This is not a fault in the product. Philip Morris blends each market separately rather than shipping one recipe worldwide. It just means the name is not the whole address.

Tidal Pearl is the frost option, a clean mint cooling that arrives smooth rather than sharp. The easiest capsule entry point if you dislike heavy sweetness.

Starling Pearl pairs ripe strawberry with a thin herbal thread of basil. The basil is what stops the berry turning syrupy, and it makes this the most unusual Pearl we sell.

Provence Pearl is the floral one, releasing a soft floral and fruit combination with light cooling. Balanced rather than loud.

Sun Pearl releases watermelon and tropical fruit with a cool menthol finish.

Twilight Pearl is the darkest, with blueberry and blackberry flooding in on the click and a menthol trail behind them. The most expressive berry flavour in the range.

Sun Pearl is the warm one. Crisp apple and soft pear sweetness over a mildly creamy tobacco base, with no menthol blast at any point. The gentlest Pearl we stock and the right pick if you dislike strong cooling.

Which Pearl should you buy

• If you want cooling with almost no sweetness, Tidal Pearl.
• If you want dark berry, Twilight Pearl.
• If you want tropical, Oasis Pearl. Buy the Indonesian version if price matters and the Japanese one if you want it more concentrated.
• If you want something with a genuine concept behind it, Starling Pearl. Strawberry and basil is not a combination anyone else in this category is attempting.
• If you dislike menthol but like the capsule idea, Indonesian Sun Pearl. It is the only Pearl we stock that does not lean on cooling.
• If you have never used a capsule stick, start with a single pack rather than a carton. The click mechanic suits some people immediately and leaves others cold, and it is not worth finding that out two hundred sticks in.

What each range costs

Indonesia sits at the lower end of our pricing, Kazakhstan in the middle, and Japan at the premium end. The gaps come from tobacco excise in each source market rather than from anything inside the pack.

None of the Pearls are carried in the official UAE range, so if Arabic and English packaging matters to you, this branch of the catalogue will not have it.

Where a flavour exists in more than one range, as Oasis Pearl and Sun Pearl do, buying the Indonesian version is the cheaper route into the same idea, with the caveat above about Sun Pearl not being the same idea at all.

Devices, format and storage

Twenty sticks per pack, 200 per carton across ten packs, with cartons cheaper per stick. A session runs up to six minutes or fourteen puffs.

All Pearls need induction heating. IQOS ILUMA, ILUMA ONE and ILUMA PRIME, the whole ILUMA i series, and the LAMBDA i8, i9 and i10. They will not heat in an IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS ORIGINALS, lil, LAMBDA T3 or LAMBDA CC, because those use a blade and TEREA has no space for one. Those devices take HEETS.

Storage matters more with Pearls than with any other TEREA. The capsule holds liquid, and heat dulls what comes out of it. A pack left in a car through a Dubai summer will still click, but the release will be noticeably flatter than it should be. Keep them sealed, cool and out of direct sun.
